Nature

Lake Kerkini is an artificial water reserve, created as a deviation of the Strymon river in the beginning of the 20th century, in order to facilitate the irrigation of the farms. By the years, the lake has been evolved into a habitat of migrating birds, as well as rare flora.

Strymon river is running through a crack nearing magma, so already from its source in Vitosha mountain (Sofia - Bulgaria) and all the way to the sea (both in Bulgaria and Greece), has plenty of hot springs. Some (in Greece), known from Romans and Byzantines, are still being valorized for hot baths (Agistro, Sidirokastro), while others offer heat to greenhouse cultivations.

Corrosion of the rocky places has left some cliffs , worth seeing, as well as argyle and rocky canyons.

Secular water flow in a natural (visitable) cave (Alistrati) has ornamented it with stalactites of unique formation. Other caves are not yet become visitable.
