About The Territory

Landscape

The plains of the Serres territory are surrounded by mountains from all sides.

At the north, the border with Bulgaria and North - West with F.Y.R.O.M. three main mountains (Menoikion - Agkistro - Belles) of more than 1500m high are keeping the climate off the freezing winds, at such a level that even olives are thrive.

The west side is dominated by the Pangeon mountain, a landmark from ancient times, both for the gold mines and the myths about Orpheus, Bachus, Dionysus and other divinities connected with wine cultivation and consumption.

The western and south west side are dominated by a mountain dividing Serres from the Tessaloniki territory.

The southern part is barriered by the Kerdyllion mountain which is leaving a passage siding the Strymon Delta.

There is only a 10 km long coast belonging to the territory administration, part of a beach of more than 50km. It takes less than 45 min to reach the beaches from Serres.
